Spooky Movies And Halloween Traditions With Love On The Pod

Witch Hat

Boo! Did someone say spooky season?! It's that time of year again, folks – the leaves are turning, there's a chill in the air, and we're all craving pumpkin spice lattes. Here at Love on the Pod, we're embracing all the autumnal vibes, and in Episode 21, we're diving headfirst into some cozy TV movies with fall themes.

Now, we originally planned on dedicating this episode entirely to Halloween flicks. But as we spilled the tea in Episode 19, Hallmark Halloween Movie Pitches, there's a surprising lack of Halloween-themed goodness from Hallmark and Great American Family. (Seriously, where are the spooky romances?!) Maybe Lifetime has the market cornered on that, but hey, a podcast can dream, right? Anyway, fear not, because we've still got a cauldron full of awesome autumnal movies to keep you entertained this season!

First up, Danielle conjures up a ghostly Hallmark gem with "3 Beds, 2 Baths, 1 Ghost." This charming movie is a nostalgic trip back to the 1920s, where a mischievous spirit is stirring up trouble in her old haunt. Trust us, this one's a fun romp!

Pumpkin Chiffon Pie

Next, Jessica whips up a sweet treat with Hallmark's "Pumpkin Pie Wars." Get ready for a delicious rivalry as two families battle it out for pumpkin pie supremacy! This movie had us craving a taste of that blue ribbon pie, and it inspired us to share a recipe that'll have your taste buds doing the happy dance. Check out this amazing Pumpkin Chiffon Pie with Gingersnap Crust – it's the perfect way to wow your guests this holiday season. And for an extra touch of indulgence (because why not?), top it off with a dollop of Bourbon Whipped Cream! You can thank us later.

Finally, Sherri takes a dark turn with Lifetime's "I'll Be Watching," based on the chilling novel "The Purple Rose" by Christi R. Walsh. Prepare for some suspense! If you want to hear the rest of our picks, tune in to Episode 21 of Love on the Pod.

Speaking of spooky season, we couldn't resist sharing some of our favorite Halloween traditions! Because let's be honest, Halloween is much more than just candy corn and costumes (although we do love those too!).

Bowl of chili

One of our most beloved traditions? Whipping up a big pot of homemade chili and serving it with a side of warm, buttery cornbread before heading out to trick-or-treat with the kiddos. It's the perfect way to fuel up those little ghosts and goblins before a night of candy collecting! Plus, let's be real, it gets chilly here in the Pacific Northwest, and a belly full of chili keeps everyone toasty warm as they brave the night in search of the "good candy." This tradition has been passed down in our family for decades, and it's one we cherish every year.

Once the sugar rush wears off and those trick-or-treat bags are overflowing, Danielle's family has the perfect way to wind down. They snuggle up on the couch, wrapped in cozy blankets, and settle in for a family movie night featuring the ultimate Halloween classic: "Halloweentown!" Is there anything more nostalgic?! But the Halloween fun doesn't stop there! The next day, they put those hard-earned candy hauls to good use with a little "sweet" twist on math lessons. Think sorting, counting, and maybe even a few fractions thrown in for good measure. Who knew learning could be so delicious?

Now, as the true matriarch of Love on the Pod (both on the podcast AND in real life!), Sherri might have grown children, but that doesn't mean she's any less enthusiastic about Halloween! Instead of trick-or-treating, she channels her spooky season energy into transforming her home into a whimsical autumn wonderland. Think cozy and inviting, with a touch of old-fashioned charm. "Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests is my top priority," Sherri shares. "I want them to feel like they've stepped into a warm hug!" But don't expect any creepy crawlies or gruesome ghouls at Sherri's place. She prefers a more lighthearted approach to Halloween, with smiling pumpkins, cheerful scarecrows, and friendly ghosts that bring back fond childhood memories.

And finally, Jessica shares one of her favorite Halloween traditions; the annual pilgrimage to the pumpkin patch with her hubby and kiddos (because let's be honest, it's not really fall without one, right?). Ever since they hightailed it to Texas, the pumpkin patch game has reached a whole new level. Remember how they say everything's bigger in Texas? Well, pumpkin patches are no exception, y'all! Jess can't stop raving about the family-friendly activities and the treats that are so over-the-top, they practically scream 'Instagram me!'
